Extracted de-identified consumer health data is safe, secure and privacy protected in Primary Sense.

When visiting a GP, patients have a say in how they want their health data shared. By giving consent to their general practice, de-identified patient data is shared with Primary Health Networks (PHNs) to help with improving health – like commissioning mental health services – in Australia.

Primary Sense has the following in place to protect patient privacy:

  • Extracted de-identified data contains no personal identifying information – like name, date of birth, address, Medicare number, etc.

  • Data cannot be combined with other data to re-identify patients

  • De-identified data can only be accessed by participating PHNs and is stored in each PHN’s individual lockbox

  • When a patient withdraws consent to share de-identified data, practices can register for that patient’s data to not be included in any future extraction by Primary Sense

  • Robust governance and security framework provided
